Vergo is most wasted potential. He is one of most badass characters and best designs from one piece, yet he was wasted as a law only side villain next to cc in pH.
he should have been yonkou top commander. like instead of smoothie, or maybe instead of Burgess, or instead of queen(king, or top 4 commanders of revos. I still want oda to bring him back with a df power as power up.

The telltale sign of a Yonkou Commander is being a big and useless buffoon who is significantly inferior to his/her boss. Vergo doesn't fit that description.

not based on wb's 16 commanders, like marco and ace, kiku's brother. cracker is also normal sized. also 5th yonkou luffy's main commanders, zoro and sanji.
No....but Doffy would have been a great Shogun imho....i mean the Shogun of the Land of Swordsmen.....i was expecting a cool looking swordsman like Kyoshiro but we got him

It's clear why Oda didn't go that direction. He wants us to 100% despise Orochi. If he were someone cool like Doffy, he'd have some fans. Giving him 0 redeeming elements lessens the chance for us to grow attach to him. And the "Orochi fans" that exist are for the most part being ironic.
Oda just loves his "subverting expectation" I mean We literally see Kaido's first fight with a top tier and he gets owned and requires saving... Oda just can't get enough of "subverting expectations"...
I'm honestly surprised that Roger and white beard came out of that flashback looking so good, I was waiting for another "subverting expectations" with those two as well

He usually gives us hints to the truth, though. Kaido's "title" was always shaky, and he had that big gaping scar since his first appearance, and we were told Orochi was a paranoid coward prior to his first appearance.

There aren't that many differences between Doffy and Orochi save for the fact that Doffy used to do his dirty deeds himself while Orochi always had others do it (because Doffy isn't a coward and Orochi is).

He does give us hints but they are always vague and easily read in other ways
Like Zoro has a gaping scar and yet I can honestly say his performance against Mihawk is much more admirable than Kaido's against Oden. I mean losing wasn't the issue, it's just the way it played out entirely that was sooooo Scumy.
Orochi's paranoia could've have been read more as Overly cautious than cowardly as well before his introduction since you know, he was actually correct from the beginning. There was an actual conspiracy against him. So that alone gave him the benefit of a doubt for a while as maybe he's just really cautious. But then his performance in the Komurasaki incident tanked ALL leeway given by me. And for other people they held on hope until he was crapping himself when Zoro attacked him. Some other people still believed he could maybe do something in this flashback but nope, he's pure fodder. FODDEROCHI
But there's a reason why Doffy and crocodile are the most popular villains... they have massive Fuck boi energy... Oda draws them as sexy guys with bad ass personalities and back stories and powers specifically so that people like thme on a surface level... its their actions and such which are made evil so counteract all that drip Oda gave them
