For all we know, after Kidd beat up those wannabe pirates, he could've come across Lucky Roo. Kidd also could've tried to take them on in seastone handcuffs. The situation is a total blank and trying to use it to downplay him when Oda tried to express how experienced Kidd was via it is silly.
