Sanji "not hitting women" is how Oda thinks he's such a progressive and cool dude because he tries to embody a message of non-violence towards women on Sanji.
But the thing is, it's a good cause, but for the wrong reasons. Sanji was conditioned by Zeff to put women on a pedestal. He doesn't see them as human beings, he sees them as "divinities" who can do no wrong.
This is problematic as fuck, because, in real life, this creates "the good guys". People who don't know to interact with women seeing them as human beings, and end up resenting them when their feelings are not mutual.
Call it a "positive toxicity".
In Oda's head, simply "not hitting women because yes" is enough, since Oda himself apparently has a great difficulty of seeing women as complex human beings as much as anyone else.
They are beings who are more suited for "mother roles", "emotional beings", "caring creatures", etc. The basic notion that women are the "support class" for the men "hard carries".
That's why Nami has this fucking boner for being a "mother" to children, why even freaking ROBIN had a motherly approach with Momonosuke, why Toki, a time traveller from the Void Century was use as mere breeding mare and emotional support for the awesome and flawless Oden, etc.

One PIece is an extremely sexist manga EVEN pre-TS. Don't fool yourself because Nami and Robin were a little bit less worse than women in order shounen.
Accept it, filter it for the real life, and move on.
Which is why I get disgusted when I see the shallow "woke" shit of "hurr durr but sanji pervert". Nothing more than shallow excuses to justify their own "morality" like it would give them a cookie as a prize or something.

Yeah Sanji. I liked him pre TS despite his advances towards women all the time. He still had the cool spy image when difficult times called for it. Post TS... Well you summarized it 100% on point!

What I really don't get is how Oda can write effortlessly transpeople, gay people, people from other races interacting with the strawhats and their allies in way so positive and open minded, in a way where absolutely no one minds their identity for a second and everyone brushes over it as it is the most normal thing in the world ... where even Kaido calls Yamato"him" and people cry over Bon Chans goodbyes, but then ... Oda writes women the way he does and considers Sanji a good rolemodel for boys displaying a good behaviour towards women. Like how?! HOW?!

There are problems but I actually find Nami very developed and one of the best written character.
I have read many manga , there is actually few female character I found as amazing as Nami.
My second favourite character is Lucy. Which is hilarious as she as same problem as Nami

Lucy is really great especially in Grand Magic Games arc especially because of the sheer tragedy and beauty of Future Lucys story arc and also the arc with Mard Greer in it, Tartarus or w/e one it was. I was talking to @Jaguark101 recently on how much I love Mashima writing Lucy in the Fairy Tail thread on here recently and discussing how fantastic the clock keys filler arc for her was! It was meant to be part of the manga too!

Its ironic how Mashima can write female characters so well and yet got so much hate for how he depicted them lmfao.

I also love Brandish, Erza, Juvia, Wendy and such too. Maybe Eileen/Irene as well. FT is very underrated in some aspects.
