I think I'm a bit skeptical now.
The way chapter 992 played out, it felt like Oda would continue to escalate the tension in the coming chapters. But the last 2 chapters slowed things down quite considerably, now I feel like the resolution to the current plot lines would take a bit of time because of which an imminent ending for Act 3 seems unlikely.
This weeks chapter will be pivotal. I believe that more than the scabbards fight it would depend on the ice oni situation and Luffy running towards Kaido. If Oda wraps up those 2 plot points rather quickly, then we can expect the act to end on 998/999.
But for now I'm bracing for a tame chapter 1000.

Chapter 599 , Sanji referred to Zoro as a "thing" and that he is hard to kill ( Big Mom also said this about Kaido)
Chapter 687 was released during the week of Zoro's birthdaty, titled wild beast (the Monet moment where she got neg diffed by Zoro's Aura.)
Chapter 959 , Oden's introduction and chapter titled "Samurai"
