One Piece suffers in the western community from not having an edgy psuedo-intellectual bait appearance. It's cartoonish and childish looking on the exterior. But if you actually take your time to digest it, it has as much depth to it as anything in its medium. A lot of people see the goofy exterior and feel that not giving it a chance helps build their "internet philosophy professor" persona. So you hear things like "Shonen series X is more thematically complex" just because it has that darker frustrated intellectual bait look. If fans actually cared to analyze the story and characters at a deeper level like fans of other "seemingly darker" series, the conversation around OP would be amazing and would match the true quality of the series.
But that doesn't happen, which leads to most of the conversation on line being dominated by brain dead "sAnJi vS zOrO" and the spread of terms like "wanking", "low-diff" and "Ls and Ws" which literally made me check out of 99% of online OP content for years.
I don't want to mention names but the level of analysis OP gets on youtube is a joke. Some of the most viewed "reviewers" are so superficial and create such toxic sheep mentality among their followers. You'll rarely find content that dissects the story, themes, characters, comedy, art, etc... at a level that actually matches the story's level.

First Oda must understand that in reality fans like edgy cool badass characters no cartoony goofy like so why he doesnt do what fans want if he want to attract more audiances....i mean does oda ever think that why fans like characters like katakuri doflamingo crocodile whitebeard garp or roger?...because in fans perceptive and mind thats mean badass and cool and that perceptive cant be changed no matter what era...if he want to make it popular worldwide he must have more or at least balance between goofy and badass characters....and more fight people loves fight lol
