I guess because of Katakuri since he lost to WCI Luffy while Pre-Udon Bound Man got one shot by Kaido.
Thus, the expectations for the YC1 guys were extremely low at this point.

However, people shouldn't forget that Luffy had lots of plotarmor against Katakuri, dude was still too powerful and just allowed him to use G4th at the end.

Katakuri's skillset is useless to Kaido but it doesn't mean that King is too, especially if his skillset is built completely different with powerful slashes, skilled Ryuo, race-specific abilities and so on.
