I used to be a GoT buff until, well, you know. Nowadays I can't even bring myself to rewatch some of my favorite scenes, but I still remember them almost verbatim

Nice to see that the classic lines still live on:cheers:
I've watched a series from a brazilian youtuber, that "dissected" the GoT series and "what happened". She tells a bunch of behind the scenes things from how the DnD became the showrunners based on a few books written by journalists who followed the series trajectory and interviews, etc.
Long story short, they lied to Martin and lied to the HBO producers.
Ngl, It's legit infuriating.

Tell me about it. To go from such an iconic show that almost everyone on the planet had at least heard of to something that isn't even mentioned anymore is truly an amazing feat of shitty showrunning.

GoT was firmly on its way to becoming a necessary part of pop culture, akin to The Sopranos for example. Yet it's been forgotten as soon as the last episode aired.

Fuck Dumb and Dumber

I still haven't watched the last episode.
I just don't feel like it.
All the things I was a fan of from the books got precisely butchered on the show.
Dorne, Euron Greyjoy, the White Walkers....Young Griffon doesn't even appear....

Honestly, in retrospect, I'm happy they didn't include some stuff from the books. At least that way we have those untouched versions we can reread and enjoy.

Because that's the only thing we can do, knowing TWOW is never getting released :josad:

@NikaInParis Look how they fucking destroyed one of the MOST interesting character in fantasy fiction...I hate this show so much. Holy fuck why did I fucking started remembering it again? I always go down this spiral of hatred towards this fucking garbage.

The problem with "gardener" type authors like George R.R. Martin and Patrick Rothfuss is that they can't finish the story. They spin so many yarns that it becomes impossible to untangle everything in the end and they end up having to cut things off abruptly.

Oda's going to have to cut some loose ends off rather than tie them up if he wants to finish the story. I just hope has a clear ending in mind. Taking a break to plan is a good thing.

Damn, that what I think I remembered. it was about china. This form of slavery need to be put in one piece. History always tells the most tragic stories.

That sounds like what happened with China and opium actually?

*This is the first scholarly study in which the production, trade and political effects of opium and its derivatives are shown over many centuries, and in many countries (China, India, Indonesia, Japan, all Southeast Asian countries and some in Europe and the Americas). Starting in the 16th century, slavery and opium became the two means with which the bodies and souls of men and women in the tropics were exploited in western imperialism and colonialism. The first waned with the abolition movement in the 19th century, but opium production and trade continued to spread, with the associated serious social and political effects. Around 1670 the Dutch introduced opium as a cash crop for mass production and distribution in India and Indonesia. China became the main target in the 19th century, and only succeeded in getting rid of the opium problem around 1950. Then it had already been transformed from an “Eastern” into a “Western” problem.*

This is something I thought about the other day - Oda is also a gardener but the main difference is Oda is in a system where he has to continually pump out content whereas Martin is basically left to his own devices. Martin has no schedule to keep as far as ASOIAF goes, he's made more money out of it than he could have dreamt in his wildest dreams. If he ever releases TWOW it's just another check.

Don't get me wrong, Oda is also rich but he also comes from a culture of workaholics so him ever abruptly ending the story without outside pressure is unthinkable.

You can't cut something off abruptly if you never finish the story.
Checkmate.
