I’ve noticed that people who wank for a specific character usually are the same people who complain about ONE PIECE’s writing but it if means that the character that they Wank for gets new feats and more relevance in the story. Likewise if it means that a character which they have a particularly strong dictates gets shafted aside featwise and plotwise they have no qualms about writing in such a scenario. where @zaman argues that characters with no relation to the void century shouk and will be shafted aside because they are not genetically related to important people completely ignoring huge parts of ONE PIECE’s themes such as inherited will and how family isn’t just biological just to shit on Mihawk and zoro.

Selective reading/double standards/complete inability to read is nothing new mate. You’ve got people arguing that Zoro will never get CoC because reasons, but post one panel of Sanji at the head of some clown fiesta as evidence that somehow he has it. The cognitive dissonance is gobsmacking.

The CoC debates are probably some of the best examples of this mentality. I’ve seen people go against literally everything suggested by the author to push their agenda. Some shining examples include citing Katakuri as evidence that CoC is genetic, not realising that it actually proves the opposite given that he has 60+ siblings who don’t have it. Yet this continues to be a talking point among certain fandoms. Unbelievable.

I followed One Piece for several years before engaging with the community recently. Maybe this is the norm for anime/shonen communities (wouldn't know), but I never expected people to engage in some zero sum game of constantly shitting on characters in a bid to make their favourites look better. The way this behaviour and mindset underpins so much discussion is pretty annoying.
