I doubt a japanese, Oda, will bring chinese culture as reference in his manga since there has never been warm relations between those 2 nations. Just to be clear, has Oda ever made a single reference to chinese culture? Yet it is possible there are similarities since they shouldn't either be so far from each other (to make an example dragons are important in both of them).

Isn't kaidos whole motif a reference to Chinese stuff ?

Chinese or japanese? The dragon for sure has an oriental style yet why should it be chinese? Is there some particular reason? I mean we have Orochi and that is from the legend of the Orochi no yamata amd stuff (we also have seen that in Naruto), then Wano of course is entirely based on Japan. The only possible catch for me, if there isn't a clear reference, is the evil chinese dragon enslaving the poor Wano/Japan.

Also, I may be completely wrong but I'm saying this because usually there is no sympathy at all between Japan and China and that transfers usually in their novels as well.

These 4 celestial beings are also depicted in Japanese culture.
Genbu the northern black tortoise.
Seiryu the eastern azure dragon.
Byakko the western white tiger.
Suzaku the southern vermillion bird.

Kaido's fish fruit/dragon and the dragon gate is a chinese myth.

There are A LOT of connection between chinese and japanese myths, due to the interactions between these 2 cultures throughout history.

And that's the whole point. Kaido the big bad is China.

I believe the bird is Sanji. I think it's a very fair assumption.

Aside from the Vegapank leaks that said Sanji would turn into a fire bird...

Sanji:-

- Fits the red fire colour
- Has been hinted to have a transformation since Thriller Bark
- Has his eyebrows associated with DFs
- Produces flames like DFs users and not other users
- Had his Lineage Factor toyed with when he was a fetus
- Usopp wonders if he was born under a miraculous star

There are also more. But i'd save it for my thread.

Who the Black Tortoise is...is also what I will save for my thread.
Just stop with the "theory". I meant it in good way, to prevent you from being the usual weekly laughing stock.

I meant, Suzaku / Red Vermillion's territory is in South. While Judge and his family's territory is in North Blue. He can't be the Suzaku.

Hancock and Amazon Lilly have no Chinese references and inspiration? I don't think Oda cares about the relationship between Japan and China.

I don't really care. It's nothing more than a theory. It's not something I'm truly certain of.

And Kaido's favourite island is a Winter Island...but the Seiryu represents Spring. Not everything has to be perfect.
