The Future of Computing - And Computer and Mobile Phone Setups

Thought this would be interesting to share and a cool read if you want to check it out

I'm very passionate about VR and AR, and this is common knowledge in those discussions, but maybe not in general tech discussions




One big idea about future computing is that it'd be like this:

You have XR ( meaning mixing VR and AR ) glasses, that act as a monitor/mobile screen displaying the apps and screens in an AR space

And you have a computer called a puck, a small compute unit that acts as the actual hardware




The puck would be the hardware that streams to the glasses and the thing that software runs on

You'd have a small puck which the glasses use as phone/mobile hardware, and keep it somewhere like in a backpack or pocket

And you'd have a bigger puck at home that has desktop-PC level hardware



And you could use a keyboard and mouse wirelessly with all this, headphones etc, and maybe some VR controllers for XR gaming specifically

Interesting read! The puck concept is clever, but it makes me wonder about data speeds and latency. Do you think wireless streaming from a pocket puck could ever match the latency of a physical wire, especially for high-end XR gaming? Definitely a cool look into where things might be heading.

I mean it does actually work well even now on consumer headsets

I wouldn't say passionate, but I am highly fascinated by the tech behind XR.

It is incredible to watch how merging real environments with virtual worlds completely changes how we play games and interact with software. The rapid engineering progress in both immersive headsets and real-time graphics makes it a truly compelling field to explore.

Forgot to add. The future potential outside of gaming is also very cool. Imagine a world where a surgeon never has to perform a complex, high-risk operation for the first time on a real human being. They can step inside a virtual operating room, practice the exact cuts, and anticipate complications before they ever pick up a scalpel etc.
