In regards to Kid, a lot of people love to joke and meme around about him. But the fact is, Kid is one of the most important characters going forward. Oda himself said that out of all of the supernova, Kid especially would be important; if you look at how Oda has built him up, its not unreasonable to see why.
Out of all the characters in the entire series, there have only been two characters that have been portrayed to be a rival of Luffy; Blackbeard and Kid. What's more, there are only 2 major characters who have beef with shanks; blackbeard and Kid.
In the past, Roger, Roger had 2 major rivals, Whitebeard and Xebec. Shiki was also a rival of his but the manga hardly gives him any significance, at least not to the extent of whtiebeard and xebec. But even if we add shiki to the mix, you notice a strange parallel. Blackbeard directly parallels to Xebec, with him owning beehive, naming his ship the "spear of xebec", serving on the crew of a former rocks pirate, being a D, being Luffy's greatest rival, and having his laugh literally be "Zehahahaha"(zehaha-->xehaha--->xebec).
If blackbeard prallels to xebec and Kid, Luffy's 2nd greatest rival, either parallels to whitebeard or shiki, then wouldn't the parallels hint at Kid and Blackbeard teaming up? And wouldn't this be perfectly in line with the two's hatred of shanks and opposition to Luffy? I know, I know, "Kid doesn't do alliances". But he basically got over that this arc, when he decided to let Luffy handle kaido and instead go after big mom.
Kid is perfectly willing to go into an alliance if he has a need for one. Would he be willing to go into one with blackbeard? I think so, and I think the impetus for it will be a failing rivalry with Luffy. Up until dressrosa, Kid has been able to at the very least create the image of an equal rivalry with Luffy. Pre-skip he had a higher bounty, at the beginning of post skip, he still had a higher bounty. But while he was locked away in kaido's prison, something changed. All of a sudden, Luffy got a 100 mil bounty raise for beating doffy and then a 1bil bounty raise for beating cracker and katakuri. Not only that but he also got a powerful army on his side in the form of the grand fleet. This is something Kid doesn't know about yet, as he hasn't had access to the news in quite some time. What's going to happen when he finds out?
More than that, what's going to happen post wano, when Luffy is miles ahead of him? When it is revealed that Luffy has 3 of the 4 road poneglyphs? When he is declared the next emperor?I think at some point, Kid is going to get desperate and go to blackbeard for help. This is what I believe will be what Oda referred to when he underscored Kid's importance.
In the future, Kid will ally with blackbeard as Whitebeard did Rocks, and through this alliance, Kid will be a major arc villain(albeit he will share an arc with blackbeard, it won't be just him). "But what is the point of this, aren't the straw hats much stronger?" Yes, they are, but that is the very reason it has to happen. Kid dreams of becoming pirate king and he won't let that dream go until he challenges Luffy and loses. I believe that similar to whitebeard, it will be only after Kid loses that he reaches his true potential. He will give up on becoming pirate king and chase a more noble ambition and through that, become one of the strongest pirates of this generation, possibly even a near equal to Luffy.
While I think he ultimately loses, I do think he'll put up something of a good fight. Being one of the few conquerors, he will likely be able to amass a large army with ease post wano. Especially if word gets out that he fought against kaido and big mom. He might even steal the tobi roppo to his side; who's who hates shanks, ulti and page hate big mom, and they all collectively hate the straw hats, assuming they aren't arrested, Kid's probably the best shot they have. If he allies with blackbeard, his crew might even get some devil fruits. Killer would be quite overpowered if his blades were fed zoans.
