The leakers said that Mars tried and failed to break the barrier, but that’s not what happened at all. All that we saw Mars do this chapter is dive bomb through the barrier to reach the labophase, which caused an explosion when he passed through (like it did when Luffy and Bonney crossed through the barrier). It’s not like we saw Mars getting knocked back by the explosion. I know that the current translation is bad, but Mars has no lines of dialogue this chapter, so it’s impossible that he made a comment about failing to pass through unless the translators just straight up deleted a text bubble

Why am I not surprised to see the leakers trying to make a future Sanji opponent look bad

Yes that’s another reason for why he’s a Sanji victim. Sanji vs Mars obviously isn’t as set in stone as Zoro vs Venus, but a bird seems to complement Sanji’s fighting style a bit more than a boar, worm, or spider would
