I want to present you the Philippine National Flag:

More info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_the_Philippines

Just want to make it short:
  • Colors involved, familiar?
  • Sun? Also, with 8 rays, similar to those shown in the story so far...
  • 8 rays represents the Philippine provinces who had high involvement during the 1896 revolt against Spanish Empire... Then there's the Eight-Nation Revolution in the story...
  • Three stars refers to the major island groups in the country... Remember when Marco called Zoro and Sanji the stars?
  • Sun symbolizes unity, freedom, people's democracy and sovereignty...
Possible reference? Or just a coincidence?

wouldn't be too far fetched for Oda to take inspiration from many things. Especially since Maharlika are in Asia and closer to Japan

There are other parallels to Indonesian folklore.
Oda picks something from everywhere so it is not too far fetched.

Not really that interesting if you can not draw new information from this.
