Ok you guys are gonna have to hear me out on this one.
Shanks, Pranks and Garling are the same person. Shanks and Pranks are clone of Garling. Garling ultimate's goal is to have the Figarland and himself rule over the world and so his way of being immortal through the centuries is to have clones of himself ( Kinda like in Foundation if you know that book/Tv show). The real reason behind Shanks stealing the Nika's fruit was to provoke the cataclysm that is talked about in the newest chapter and that will cause Imu's fall and create an opportunity for Garling to seize the throne. I'm not sure weither Shanks is part of that and would be following Garling's plan but he might have knowledge about it and chose to place his bet on Luffy to be the one that has to face this challenge, " Maybe why he said for better or worse " after stopping Akainu during Marineford.
It's kind of a rough theory but I thought that if Pranks was a clone then Garling having clones of himself would be the most interesting plot ( to me ) cause it creates tension inside the gorosei and justify the others gorosei being mad about Garling coming in the room ( chapter 1125 ), because they know how dangerous he might be to Imu. That would also show that if they know that Garling has clones of himself, Imu is desesperate to end this war because he shouldn't trust him.
Tell me if that's too far fetched.
