This is decades-old misunderstanding that people have, because a lot of fans have yet to reach WCI. Zoro the hardwork, Sanji the talent.
Back in the day, people get this impression because:
- The concept of talent vs hardwork
- Zoro exercises all day, yet Sanji can keep up.
This led to an impression that Sanji is more talented.
However:
- WCI shows us that Sanji is born as an average human that have mediocre stats, that's why he got shunned by his family and disowned. At the same time, child Zoro can lift huge boulders and spar with Kuina for a long time.
- Wano shows us that Zoro is born with CoC, only one in a million people have it. Further, he is capable to use advanced conqueror, only fewer people can do it. Whereas Sanji doesn't.
- And this is something people often overlook, Zoro created his own 3 sword style. That's a very impressive feat, since we don't see other users of 3 swords.
- Bonus point that may be ignored, in a poll, Zoro is "more handsome". This is a clear proof if we're looking at pure physical talent.
As a factual proof, at the same age (21), pre-Onigashima PU, Zoro is high Commander level while Sanji is low/mid Commander level.
Last but not least, Zoro doesn't need to be just a hardwork-type alone. He is the perfect embodiment of talented people who works hard.
