Here's a scenario that would enrage half of the fandom and hype up the other half.

EOS.

• Shiryu backstabs and mortally injures Mihawk off-panel.
• With his dying breath, Mihawk gives Yoru to some fodder character, trusting for the sword to be delivered to Roronoa Zoro, whom Mihawk himself declares WSS; Shiryu's cheapshot was not, in Mihawk's eye, a sign of supreme swordsmanship.
• This sets up a fight between He-Who-Killed-the-WSS and He-Who-Was-Called-WSS-by-the-WSS.
• Zoro vs Shiryu becomes portrayal (title) vs feats.

I think Zoro vs Mihawk is set in stone, and that no one else will ever be able to surpass Mihawk.

This is merely a what-if.

If such a scenario happened, Shiryu would be the WSS, not Zoro.
Until he beats him.
