Yeah, it's why I'm not too keen for him to switch sides. Oda's done little to make him sympathetic to the reader. Unless there's more about Apoo we don't know. He says he joined Kaido because he recognized how outmatched he was from the start, but maybe Kaido did onto him what he usually did to others, like break his spirit through his crew. We know that the other Supernovas entered the New World way before the Strawhats. There could've been a tragic encounter between Apoo and Kaido/Beast Pirates at some point before he joined with Kid and Hawkins.

I wasn’t sure about Hawkins until this most recent chapter...no wonder Law bisected his ass, that guy shouldn’t be so beholden to the Yonko who fucked his carefully crafted plans to hell.

The moment he told Law about what happened in their alliance is what convinced me as well. Law roomed him LOLz.

Seems like a reasonable explanation, considering Kaido’s penchant for smashing the small fries and bending them to his will so they can force their peers into the fold. I wonder if there even IS a redemptive arc coming for him...seems like he could easily be defeated in the frenzy of the raid without us missing out on him later in the story. Like you said, though, there’s plenty we still don’t know about him, and Oda’s pulled off the loyalty switch pretty well in the past.

Totally valid points, but I will remind you that Sanji wasn’t too torn up about the arrangement between the time he saw a picture of Pudding and when he learned her true intentions. During that stretch of time, Oda gave us his inner monologue talking about how even though he’d miss his crew, being with his future wife wouldn’t be a bad trade off.

Listen, I never advocate for a guy NOT getting laid (consensually), but my larger point is that neither Zoro nor Sanji would willingly betray their captain under any circumstances. Your friend seems to think one would, and he should be reminded of how this is visibly proven incorrect multiple times throughout the entire story of One Piece.
