Info for those interested.
A rough break down:
- Oda and his team finish the chapter and send to Shueisha
- Shueisha send the chapter to Viz Media who send to the Shonen Jump Editorial team
- Stephen Paul will typically be sent the chapter by the weekend (can be as early as Thursday/Friday of a given week). This is 1 week ahead of the current chapter.
- Translations are due by the end of the weekend roughly.
- This is then checked by a SJ Editor at Viz who is usually bi-lingual i.e knows Japanese too and therefore can revise and make changes to the translator's first draft. At this stage they may add in localization which wasn't present in the Stephen's first translation.
- The main SJ Editor assigned to the series will then send this to the freelance letterer for the scanlation.
- This scanlation is then sent back to the SJ Editorial team and checked by various people who also happen to be bi-lingual and check for mistranslations and deal with quality checks (at least 2 more people typically in addition to the SJ Editor) etc.
- Once this editing process is done and finalised, it gets sent for upload on Viz and MangaPlus in time for the release on Sunday/Monday.
