Character Discussion Thoughts on Eustass Kid

As a character? Ugh - Tsundere for the most part

His DF? has the potential to be one of the MOST HAX (but it's likely Oda will not use the hax abilities that it can achieve and will keep it simple on just attracting and repelling with different sizes.. speed.. etc. So I don't think it will reach its supposed high potential.
I think so too when it comes to his DF.
:few:

I think Oda already knows what happens when you go bonkers with DFs(Ope Ope no mi) and how plot can be questioned for such .

Doubt he will commit the same mistake.

He's okay. To me, he's the mirror opposite of Luffy. Menacing, cruel, and has had a round of misfortune in the New World verses Luffy's optimism, kindness and ridiculous luck. I'm not sure of the specifics of his fruit since we haven't seen it's full potential. It appears a bit similar to Law's in that it as powerful as the plot dictates.

I hope Oda shows off his character this arc.

I like him, even if he is a bit one dimensional with the irritated arrogance. His design is pretty cool (I assume @Pantheos would agree), his DF seems quite mighty, and the fact that he supposedly possesses CoC makes him even more intriguing than before. Holding out hope that Oda really does turn him into a worthy rival for Luffy after Wano, there’s a lot of potential for narrative tension.

i like that he still doesn;t care about everyone else other than his crew he stands out as luffy rival but luffy is so far ahead of him he needs to have a boost maybe take over kaido forces after he's defeated maybe take a topi roppo or two because it's not even a competiton any more luffy has fleet and strong crew members kid only has killer

if oda wants us to think of kid as a rival to luffy he needs to boost kid

Oda after seeing the fans put Law over Zoro in popularity poll... he immediately started holding him back LMAO...

Oda feared that the fans would end up turning on Luffy... and would want Law to become pirate king instead...

Specially since Oda basically gave everything to this character:

1- Hax DF
2- He was edgy lord (some people love that side)
3- Serious and can do plans (even though I think he sucks at planning LOL, but fans just always appreciate that side of him)
4- He gave him a good backstory
5- He is a D.
6- Uses a sword (which is a weapon that most fans like)

Point is... as Law was progressing from Punk Hazard against Vergo/ THEN into confronting Fuji/Doffy/ into more and more

So many fans started to look down on Luffy... and they started to want Law and Kidd to be ahead of Luffy in competition for PK... and although this will increase the intensity of Luffy's race to PK position... Oda realized that SOOO MANY of those fans actually would end up rooting for those character and wouldn't want Luffy to win the throne... it's the same with Blackbeard as some people occasionally want BB to win the throne before Luffy takes him down...

But with Law... he's a D. and he is a GOOD GUY... so for Oda... he feared the consequence of doing all those plots for him... resulted in Law being even AHEAD OF ZORO in popularity poll at one point...
This is ZORO we are talking about

Oda realized that if this trend would continue... it would end up with so many fans backing up Law or Kidd over Luffy

So... I think that Law ever since that popularity poll.. took a HUUUUGE DIVE... Oda held him back... and Luffy set it clear against Doffy to be hugely above with Gear 4th

then he didn't include Law in next arc (WCI).. to allow Luffy to EVEN GROW FURTHUR.. and now in Wano.. after his training... he EVEN reached MORE HEIGHTS...

to a point Law is not even a contender in most fans books...

Kidd on the other hand.. although Oda had big plans for him... I think his past with Law and his fear from it... is affecting his writing regarding Kidd... and I do not think Oda will flesh him out SOOO GOOD to a point of being a real trouble for Luffy in future... I don't believe that... I feel he will just stick with BB and currently Yonko to be the obstacle for the throne...

And fans support Luffy over Yonko and BB when it comes to PK position anyway... but when it comes to Law and Kidd as rivals.. if they were given the chance... Oda realized that many fans would TURN ON LUFFY.. he now avoids that...

I personally think he killed Ace because of that... because Ace was more cool... awesome fruit... SON OF ROGER... D..... Big brother.... like what else do you want is with Ace... Oda removed him completely from equation... and made the other brother as Rev member and not pirate LOL....

Oda's plan is always make SH center of attention and remove competition that would make fans root for anyone else than SHs

What do you mean?

Yes, that's exactly his purpose. That's also why I like him, he seems like a real pirate as opposed to Luffy's pure heart. His story is bound to be interesting.

Hahaha they are in the center of attention because they're the main characters. People rooting for and loving many other characters is just a huge compliment for a mangaka, and I doubt Oda sees it otherwise.

He gave Law a bigger role BECAUSE fans liked him a lot when he appeared.

Very interesting character.
He know what he wants and he won’t give up until he get it: you can beat him to a bloody pulp, severe one of his arm, reduce his comrade to a rotten puppet but he won’t lose an inch of his fighting spirit and keep fighting.
It this he clearly mirrors Luffy.
On the other side of the note he’s cruel, merciless and he’s not totally as careless as Luffy is (remember when he still wanted to watch CC‘s live genocide just for the sake to be informed), meaning that unlike Luffy he’s interested to grasp some of the inners dynamics and logics of the world that surrounds him, thus his disdain for the « scum who rule the world ».
To put it short, for how much we’ve seen thus far, he’s in many things like Luffy but more aware, cynical and pragmatic.
I have a lot of expectations about this character to be honest: i hope that Oda won’t ignore some of the characteristics i have listed to turn him into a mere surrogate of a rival for Luffy.

PSX I wouldn’t rule out him being somewhat related with Rock.
PS2 I think that the commander he harmed is Smoothie and that he has a RPG.

Very interesting character. I wonder if Shanks cut off his arm to teach him the hard way that his recklessness will cause him pain if he does not change the route he is going on ( Of course he didn't unless Killer's situation may finally open his eyes ). Killer's example should change him a little. The only thing that makes him irritating is just like Crooc wrote higher his f'ing obsession with Luffy.

ps. I'm not trying to piss off his fans but to me, he mostly represents "What Luffy would look like if he wasn't the main character" or as some say Kidd = Luffy without plot armor.

For me Kid is a badass, interesting, enjoyable character so far. His design is very good, devil fruit seem hax and broken as well. His rivalry with Luffy is very funny and I expect a lot of things from him in this arc. For me he is gonna play a huge role in defeating Kaido in this arc along with Luffy and Law. His backstory is yet to be revealed and his character is very sustainable so far. He deeply care for his crew and would do anything for them and Killer is very loyal to him since they both know each other since childhood in the South Blue. That's all for now:kayneshrug:

Still hoping that while the fights against Kaido and Big Mom will probably will be against a bunch of people, if Luffy deals the final blow to Kaido,it would be interesting if Kid did the same to Big Mom somehow. I've always expected these 2 to have a rivalry towards the end and some form of a serious battle somewhere, maybe Lodestar, before Kid actually concedes to Luffy. Hell, maybe he'll just be the next Whitebeard and never follow him

I also like the idea of him and Luffy playing the biggest parts in defeating the two Yonko, even if they’ll have quite a bit of support. He and Law both have the potential to be the WB to Luffy’s Roger, but I feel like Kid is a little more ambitious in regards to becoming Pirate King himself...maybe he’s more like Shiki, in that he’s willing to team up with people on his level to achieve domination?

I feel Law is very ambitious but Kidd even more

The most is obviously Luffy

This indicator must not be underestimated to define EoS circumstances I guess haha
