Again, I think it's Oda playing with superpositions and then getting caught having to use weird terminology to explain it. In this case, semantically.

It's a superposition of chaos and nothingness using Japanese storytelling medium to illustrate a foreign concept.

By triggering this superposition, the shield doesn't just act like a physical wall of armor. It forces the space around Imu to revert to the literal pre-creation state of the universe.

Would Bartolomeo's barrier be better?

In my opinion, yes. Why? Because Imu is only recreating a superpositioned barrier based on a condition of a particular spiritual concept combined with an environment. Bartolomeo's barrier, though, is based on the concept of barriers themselves.

The logic works specifically like this. Exactly.

1) Imu is using a spiritual concept combined with a shield. It is a superposition barrier based on chaos and nothingness in a specific environment that existed before creation when darkness and void were primordial.

2) Bartolomeo is using a meta concept based on barriers. It is a superposition that actually overrules any barriers of any kind in any superposition because concepts themselves exist outside of time in a realm of light.

This is VERY philosophical. You have to understand things like Plato's Theory of Forms to understand it.

In the Theory of Forms, the perfect "Form of a Barrier" exists eternally in a realm of light, completely outside of space, time, or creation. It is an immutable law of logic.
