Plus Shonem jump was pressuring him to end it.

What the flashback added is great:
-The origin of that hand
-Yhwach powers not being present 1000 years ago
-A concrete look to Yhwach motivations, honestly his poin of view is understandable at some degree.
- Ichibei words say that when he dies the eyes will return... So with his defeat against Yamamoto this technically happens.
The return of his eyes will fit the Quincy legend ....

No Yhwach never leaves the cage in the manga, he uses the Auswhalen immediately after wards and revives the Royal guard. They have changed things around now, in here he escapes the cage by Uryuu using his Antithesis ability which is a great addition.
