Character Discussion Tyrant Kuma vs Gentle Kuma

Officially, he's a "tyrant" who "committed atrocities"

But those who know him best describe him as kind-hearted.

Since we also know he was working with the Revos, it would make sense that he might invent a "tyrant" public face so that he could become a Warlord and be a double agent. Are all of the stories about his atrocities just part of that image he created, or do you think there's a kernel of truth to them? He may have had to prove his loyalty to the WG like Law did.

This reputation might be self-made, or it could be WG propaganda.

Path 1: Good King Kuma--->aligns with Revos, making long-term plans with Dragon--->wants to become Warlord so he invents an evil persona---->does something evil to prove his loyalty---->is a normal Warlord for a while--->gets exposed and is forced to become a Pacifista, (maybe this is when Bonney was kidnapped)---->becomes CD horsey

Path 2: Good King Kuma--->aligns with Revos, making long-term plans with Dragon--->WG immediately cracks down on Sorbet Kingdom, forcing him to become their most obedient warlord, smearing his reputation, and kidnapping his daughter--->is a normal warlord for a while(?)--->[does something that pisses off the WG even more]--->becomes Pacifista--->becomes CD horsey

It's interesting that even Jinbe believes that Kuma was a bad guy, since he's been around a while. Just what is the truth here, and what timeline do you think makes the most sense?

Both paths are valid, but I think I go with the 2nd

If he is a good bear, maybe the evil deeds he did was because WG held Bonney captive and he had to do those things.
However, I personally like the bad, tyrant Kuma. As one of my favorite characters, I would prefer him to not be a good bear.

I was thinking about why a tyrant might join the revolution. It seems like their main goals are to stir up support against the WG, to encourage citizens to fight off pirates for themselves instead of depending on the WG, and to get more countries to stop sending in tribute.

If King Kuma was mad with power because of his own strength, he might want to tell the WG to fuck off and that he could defend his own country, thereby aligning himself with Dragon....

But I just can't get over Sabo and Bonnie, who know him best, saying that he's a kind person. Everyone else is just saying what they heard about him.

Path 2 seems the most reasonable

Yeah I think its likely a King Riku situation and he was a good king being manipulated by the wg in a bad light and the people hate him for it.

Path 2 sounds good. I think it was mostly WG propaganda considering Kuma hates the WG.
