In the last chapter, it was not very clear if Big Mom was really defeated. But this thread is not to discuss how the fight itself was, but to try to understand the reason for Big Mom's probable defeat by Kid and Law.
I'm going to divide MY thought about Big Mom's defeat by Kid and Law into 3 parts:
1- Kid and Law's Redemption. In Sabaody, we were introduced to the Worst Generation\Supernovas, but two characters stood out (with the exception of Teach) along with Luffy, Eustass Kid and Trafalgar Law, and if you doubt that, just look at the Post-Timeskip. Unlike other Supernovas, Kid and Law actually had plans for the New World, forming alliances with other pirates as a goal, take down the Yonko. But not everything worked out, well, at least for both of them. Kid aimed to take down Shanks and was humiliated by the redhead, had his arm ripped off and as if that was enough he was betrayed by his allies and humiliated (again) by Kaido. Law on the other hand teamed up with Luffy to take down Kaido, but his real goal was to take down Doffy, and he almost died if it wasn't for the Straw Hats. Both Kid and Law were dependent on Luffy or as some people like to say they were Luffy's cheerleaders. So maybe Oda wanted to bring the image of the most promising pirates of the new generation (especially Kid who only got fucked on the timeskip) by making the two supernovas face a Yonko just like Luffy.
2-Big Mom role in the series. Don't get me wrong but Big Mom doesn't have the narrative impact to see her in another arc. I know a lot of people can use the argument of her running away from Wano and being the villain of Elbaf, but, needs?? it would be more hype Shanks to be the villain of Elbaf than Big meme. She wouldn't add to anything else in the series, and just as Kaido would try to take Wano again, Big Mom would continue chasing Luffy and Straw Hats. Maybe the only way she could get back in the series would be in a flashback to the Rocks.
3- Other characters. After the Wano arc, the series will be heading to the end with the final war, so eliminating Crydo and Meme from the series would be good for the narrative because as incredible as it may seem, there are still several characters for Oda to develop such as: Shanks, Teach, the Admirals , Dragon and Imu.
Yeah, I know a lot of people don't like the idea of Big Mom, a fucking Yonkou being defeated by two supernovas. I personally don't care because, I don't really like the way Big Mom was treated in this arc. Oda should show how monster Big mom was as a Yonkou, but instead Oda prefers to make Big mom run after Nami, run after Otama, get run over by Franky's bike calling her a mere Yonkou(LoL). Franky has never been so right before.
Well that was my thought. If you have any thoughts as to why Oda is flirting with Kid and Law's defeat of Big Mom, I'm all ears.
