Here's my guess: Prof is an indie detective, like he said, but the secondary wincon of being town-aligned if he fails to solve the cases is bullshit

he only said that so we didn't lynch him and helped him solve the case

That means its confirmed wrong. And Nanjo also confirmed ALL cousins dead, one cousin being fake dead means that he lied too. That is the only place where a fake death might have happened.
