While I was making the other thread I realized his name is actually confirmed to be spelled Augur.
It may already have been guessed by people in other places but Augurs were Roman priests who would watch the flight of birds and tell if a certain decision was approved by the gods or not, in a borad sense some kind of soothsayers.
And the first time we encounter him he's gazing at birds, and shooting them out of the sky.
Adding to this, the original meaning of the word fate is "that which has been said (by the gods)", so the will of the gods, and he's one of the characters of his crew who are obsessed with fate.
Due to his association with soothsayers, fate predictors and the fact that he is a sniper, I think we can speculate that he will get future sight.
