General & Others Viz translations vs Toei translations

#7
With Toei there's 2 layers:

Oda -> Toei scriptwriters -> Anime translators

With VIZ it's:

Oda -> Stephen

No one can take Animal Kingdom Pirates serious compared to Beasts Pirates.
Technically not wrong -> It's 獣. Although Beast would work as well.

I think he translated it as "Animal Kingdom", because it's technically Hyaku-ju, which is also Kaido's title. "100 animal/beasts" is an expression meaning all sorts/types of animals. So Kaido would be the ruler of all sorts of monsters.

But yeah Animal Kingdom sounds like something out of a Disney movie. Doesn't sound threatening. Although it's more accurate.

Can't tell which is more accurate, but I favor Toei's. Viz translations are fine, but their odd naming choices still strike me the wrong way. They're adamant in calling Zoro 'Zolo' despite his wanted posters clearly showing his name. Why not just go all in and call him Lolonoa.

If we mean Toei translation as in the official anime subs, then yes.

Viz makes some strange decisions. No one can take Animal Kingdom Pirates serious compared to Beasts Pirates.
Sounds like bootleg pirate-themed animal biscuits to me.

Viz calling the first non-Luffy protagonist “Zolo” and Kaido’s crew “Animal Kingdom Pirates” has done more damage to the quality of the series than anything other than the Davy Back Fight arc.
