Roger was a pirate for decades and had seen many things in his travels, pretty sure he had gotten much farther into the New World than Croc (who was destroyed by Primebeard) so he should know more than him.

"Square peg into a round hole" and it's me saying that an incredibly experienced pirate with VoAT who was at events like God Valley is far more knowledgeable than the average pirate.

Oda could have given Shiki the Kaido answer "yea since he used those blades they must be very legendary" or keep it ambiguous like Napoleon's weapon grade (which can handle BM's skysplitter ACoC) nah he just delegated Shiki to Strong World powertier status

I wouldn't say its impossible he already had conquerors coating and was already an established pirate so him knowing about the ancient weapons at a time that was arguably his prime makes a lot of sense
