Seriously, let us throw aside who was right and who was wrong coz some of us here surely got huge Ls...and others got big Ws... who cares about that.

But let us discuss about the wasted potentials of Wano.
Whether it is powerlevel related or plot or even character design wise.:
  • Toki
  • Oden Vs kaido
  • 5 year plot with Oden and Orochi
  • Beast pirates character designs
  • King and Queen threat level in the arc
  • Kanjuro as an enemy
  • Denjiro being Kyoshiro thus not an enemy
  • Kidd and Law not doing much before the raid
  • BMP
  • Mihawk being irrelevant and nonexistant, unrelated to Wano.
  • Kaido's character
  • WB's code and character
  • Yamato
  • Samurais
  • ....
We are 85 + chapters deep and Oda has already wasted tons of potential matchups , relevancy and reveals , missed the chances to have the villains to pose a threat!

What would you change if you had power to do so?

I already said this before, but I would have been more invested in Wano's plight if it were Yamato we met way back in Punk Hazard instead of Momo and Kin.

Momo isn't that interesting of a character, and while Kin is a good character, his longing to go back to his wife speaks more to me than his desire to avenge Oden. Not to mention, both characters aren't likely to stay with SHs after Wano. Yamato should have saved them after their time jump, have them hid somewhere in Dressrosa alongside Kanjuro, and met the SHs in PH (the reason why Kin & Momo got to PH could easily be used by Yamato as well).

Yamato turns out, after all, to be an interesting character and a potential nakama. Not only we got a Vivi dynamic with the crew, but this is like a Vivi who stays, since she wants to topple his dad, too. It would also give Kaido a more personal reason to clash with the SHs (instead of them just ruining his smile business), since the SHs now got his daughter too. And Luffy will have an even more personal stake, too, since helping out Yamato to liberate Wano is an unfulfilled dream of Ace's.

Oda should have introduced more badass strong Wano samurai both allies and enemies. That would make Akainu's worry more legit. Also a missed opportunity not to have a strong Shogun type villain.
I feel There should have been an arc for Wano and an Arc for the Beast Pirates

Wano barely focused on the beast pirates while at the same time not focusing enough on Wano

It's another case of Oda biting more than he could chew

I think one of the thing that made Wano disappointing is his weak beginning.

It was some sort of secret ops at the beginning, the SH were there for some time, yet Luffy got exposed right away, the SH being there for some time didn't really pay off same for Law, the sumo match etc. Right away the tension disappeared a bit.

The lack of connection with Wano people is also a cons. Except Ashura and Yasu village, I didn't really feel Wano people. The Oden / Scabbards connexion was rushed as hell too. I wanted more chapters about their relationship, we barely had one chapter about how Oden recruited them.

I think a mini arc of 5/10 chapters without Luffy with only the SH/Law/kinemon in Wano before Luffy came would have been great

The truth is, it kinda lives and dies on whether you were right about things. That's part of having reasonable expectations and appreciating it for what it is.

Like if you couldn't tell Yamato was a G in the first place and even now for some reason you don't feel Yamato after seeing her tears with Ace, I don't know what to tell you. That's what this series has always been about, it's probably a waste of time it you don't enjoy it.

Why the hell would Akainu know about the Kozuki clan's downfall? Word doesn't make it out to sea

There's hardly anything to reformat when it comes to Wano as subject matter. Wano doesn't languish plot wise, if not the opposite. Too many side characters and side stories, Oda could of eventually spared several chapters by cutting down some elements. But who am I to judge.

Story wise, he covertly foreshadowed Zoro's black blade, a new Strawhat, and even how Elbaf will shape up. It's a satisfactory arc so far to date.

No, he shouldn't have.

The point is that Wano was a shell of its former self. Its reputation that caused even Sakazuki to pause were the result of its history. But through deception by Kaido and Orochi, the country has eroded over the past 25 years. Swords are prohibited, dojos were closed, natural resources gone, water that's contaminated, and the warriors were either a shell of their former selves or dead.

Orochi being a weak coward is emblematic of Wano's sad state. The Kozuki, alongside their allies, fight to bring back Wano to its once great self.

'Shell of its former self' only works when you know what the former self was to begin with. Oda did the classic mistake many writers fall into: he told, not showed. Even in Oden's flashback when Wano was in its glory, we never saw the examples of mighty warriors that were hyped up, we only got Oden and the scabbards.

You're shifting the argument. I'm not talking about the execution. I'm talking about the intent. Oda wanted to present Wano as a place far from its glory days. The strongest forces aren't even the Samurai anymore, but Pirates which usurped it.

I’d say Oden and the Scabbards pretty firmly live up to the mighty warriors that was hyped.

Imagine a pirate crew of Oden, the nine scabbards, the five daimyo and the yakuza leaders, the ninja and the fodder samurai. Might not be Yonko, but they’d be the next best thing.
