According to Jiraiya on his conversation with tsunade there was a agent who told him about the location of the leader of the akatsuki that the leader was on rain village.
but who in the world this agent? It just doesnt make sense that this is a random character. What if it was itachi? Itachi knew that only Jiraiya is strong enough to beat Pain..but even though Jiraiya failed his death wasnt in vain… because his death gave time for konoha to knew what his powers was about that eventually the reason how they defeated him.
i mean if Jiraiya didnt figure out his powers i dont think naruto wouldve defeated him because they will just come back and come back again and again just like what happen when Jiraiya fought him. His 5 minutes every sage mode wont be enough without those information
