Questions & Mysteries Was Jinbei meant to be Hakiless?

#1
Looking back at his fight with Luffy, he claimed that he damaged Luffy because of his Fishman Karate, not Haki, he also didn't use CoA when Luffy hit him with Gear 2 and let his hands be bruised

That fight is weird in hindsight and makes me wonder if Jinbei was meant to be someone who relies more on Fishman Karate rather than Haki, remember this was almost a decade ago and Oda probably hasn't figured out what to do with Haki and who gets it or not

Maybe... not sure...
BUT Rayleigh set the Law of Nature by saying "all living beings" have Haki within them..... so basically, just cause you're an animal, or a fish or whatever, it does not mean you cannot have haki... So, Jinbe was never meant to be held back as a Fishman who cannot access Haki...
However, Maybe you are partially right in that Oda wanted him to rely more o Fishman Karate techniques more than Haki...

However we are at a point were Haki is mandatory for facing Yonko crew members.. so Oda HAD to give it to him, especially since he's a warlord, 2nd highest bounty on Crew, and basically one of the top 4 strongest, his prestige as a warlord was enough for Oda to not neglect giving him Haki, otherwise people would have tainted his prestige....

Basically Jinbe is like the biggest recruit for the SH so far... by biggest recruit, I do not mean that Jinbe is stronger than XXX... It's just when he was invited to join, he had the BIGGEST PRESTIGE and name, hell some might argue his name was bigger than Luffy at the time in Fishman island.... thus his bounty was higher...

So, it is a disappointig move had Oda neglected Haki with him in future

After Amazon Lily it's hard to think one of if not the strongest fishman wasn't meant to have haki, he also fought Ace and blocked Akainu, I'm sure we can spin around a theory of Jinbe making Ace bloody with water techniques but Occam's Razor points to haki.
The problem is that Oda is kinda weird with Haki, one would think even fodder have Haki in the New world yet apparently only the Seats had Haki in Doflamingo's Crew for example.

No he literally blocked Akainu punch in Marineford and fight evenly with Logia Ace. He always had it.

I bailed on the other thread talking about oda's intentions... my post was too long to say what I wanted to say and I gave up lol

But basically Oda had several pre Haki concepts along with that rock paper scissors effect of powers, and he kinda smushed everything together. I can believe that the original idea behind Jinbe, showing his power in situations with Ace and Luffy, was that Impact styled wave effect to negate their powers. I don't think it was intended to work against Akainu, probably the point of why he would always be intended to lose that fight, but other people he could just knock around with his martial arts.

Now that Haki is a thing though he needs it or else he would look like a novice.

He literally fought Logia Ace and blocked a magma fist with his hand. He definitely had it before

I never pinned down when Oda decided on the depictions as we know them because we can only guess at what he's never said. In Marineford he obviously had decided on the depiction of Haki that we see today, more or less on some details. Keep in mind that by the time Jinbe vs Ace was animated, it was still an off panel thing. Jinbe is a character he worked into the story from his head probably near the beginning if we consider his mention around volume 10 or so. There's just no way Oda had a strong idea of what we see as Haki and yet he intended at the time for Warlord Jinbe to be stronger than shitty Arlong.

Arlong was originally meant to be Defeated in Chapter 3 so it's hard to even say what Oda originally planned for Jinbei

according to sketches and concept stuff that got released jimbei was meant to be a part of the crew since before chapter 1. he had to get edited out of the lineup sketch so as not to spoil it

Yes, like I said he had to be planned way before Haki. I never saw Jinbe put in that sketch but this goes along with that.

I will never forget that scene where Akainu was kinda surprised that macro and vista are Haki users. LUL
Haha true
You know, when the timeskip happened, and ONLY Luffy, Zoro, Sanji were Haki users... I assumed that Oda wanted to structure things like:
- Yonko: Have all 3 haki types
- Top 2-3 YC: have two haki types

Rest will be non-haki users OR have one type of haki at best, and they will be RARE... as most will depend on DFs, and Seastone and their own martial arts to compensate for lack of haki...

Specially with Luffy,Zoro and Sanji coming out as only users, and then we had the Akainu looking surprised for Marco/Vista having Haki LOL... it just felt that way at beginning

Now, Haki doesn't even seem any special honestly
