General & Others Was the battle of Marineford that great to you or did you find it less epic or enjoyable that it should have been ?

In terms of war and battles Marineford arc is often cited as the best epithome of epic of epic events in One Piece with many of the strongest characters and powers being present with the Marine HQ, the Warlords, Whitebeard and his crew and allies and other strong players such as the Blackbeard Pirates, the Impel Down prisonners and Shanks being present.

But was the battle of Marineford that great when you look back at it ? Did you find that there were enough epic fights or that there weren't enough fights shown onscreen ? What do you think about the performances of the Whitebeard Pirates, the admirals and warlords being here ? Should have there been less or more casualties or was it good iyo ?

At the time when it first came out, I thought the Marineford arc was one of the best arcs of any series. But looking back, it was 90% offscreened battles, and every “fight” was a clash panel. I still think it’s good, but not as amazing as everyone thinks it is

It was great imo, the point for me were not how many fights or deaths we had but the epic moments and Marineford was one climax after another. Then it was most likely better to show a lot of small skirmishes than a few fights with full focus (the composition of fights was way more enjoyble than having Luffy again 1 vs 1 the villain for 20 chapters).

Then if Oda bothered to show everything on panel that would have watered down way too much the link connecting all the fights aka what they were fighting for and how the situation was actually evolving, to make another example it would have been like when in Skyrim you start to do side quests and a certain point you don't even remember what was the main storyline.

About the performances.. I suggest you to edit that point before this become a Yonko vs admiral battlefield lol.

The casualities were perfect too imo. Oda didn't bother to kill secondary characters nobody would care about (see Neji randomly dying in the final war in Naruto) but killed the "main characters" of the war saving Luffy for the skin of his teeth (not that there was any doubt about that lol). Then having WB die was somewhat expected since it is an old story troupe: the old master/mentor who dies for the sake of the portagonist / new gen (Sarutobi in Naruto and many others I don't even remember lol) yet Ace was unexpected and he made that happen just when everybody thought he was saved. What I liked the most, again, were most likely the big climaxs one after another. Too bad so far in the time skip Oda hasn't managed yet to recreate that feeling.
