The sword come in handy when you are missing an arm, it would be unfortunate to lose it.

Anyways, what you are describing would be a good way to showcase what a nerfed swordsman is able do in this kind of situation. Imagine the hype for the canonically stronger Mihawk who has access to all of his members.

imo, in order to keep mihawk's reputation intact, Oda is going to have shanks fight blackbeard without his sword.

Oda destroyed Mihawk reputation. So he couldn't care less.

Though, it will be a offpanel fight if it happens most likely.

Shanks is the purest swordsman in the story, "his" movie shows how the super hakiman/kickboxer/gunman really fights. You will never see him do anything without his sword unlike Zoro, Mihawk, Ray, etc.
