We finally learned why Imu hides in WG's shadow.
Truth is that Marijoise somehow became his prison, but also the only place where he can stay alive. For sure, this is the price he paid for winning the war. But you can ask why Imu stays in the shadows, why he never just come out and kill every Younko and his enemies? The answer is simple, Imu needs vassals to be able to summon himself outside of Marijoise.
He can't leave Marijoise without consequences.
Super Sommers said that Imu has limited time. If the world found out about Imu's existence, they wouldn't even need to kill Imu. All you need is to lock the Marijoise and throw away the Key.
I believe that MU, not Imu Nerona, was some crazy entity that was locked in Marijoise in the First World. But then Nerona freed this entity and became Nerona Imu. Nerona was corrupted by the desire for Power, Wealth, and Fame, and this entity, a devil, gave him everything by the covenant and possessed his body. After that, Joy Boy in the battle somehow sealed Nerona Imu in the Marijoise once again, but he lost the war, and probably lost the battle.
Nerona Imu needs people whose minds can be easily corrupted, who can be manipulated. This is why CD exists. He gave them everything; this is why he can always create new vassals, which will help him to create summon marks and to maintain the King of the World position.
In fact, the whole story about Imu reminds me of the Bible:
Before the Great Flood, the Devil and demons were able to take physical bodies, and the Devil actually was able to rule human beings. But after the Great Flood, the Devil lost the ability to take physical form. So now, as 2 Corinthians 4:4 says, he became the hidden "god of this world." As Jesus said, the Devil still maintains his position of the Ruler of this world, but now he can rule only from the shadows, possessing the minds of human beings.
And this is where One Piece has clear inspiration and similarity:
Imu loses the ability to maintain his physical form: the blob form never even has a simple drop of blood, and always looks like some dark entity. He also can only possess someone else's body or summon an incarnation of himself, but he can't really leave the Marijoise. Even now, he summoned his own incarnation/manifestation, because after the Great Flood caused by the real God of this World(Sea god), he is locked in this place.
In fact, the Bible also said about the Three Worlds:
1. The world was destroyed by the Great Flood.
2. The world will be destroyed by Armageddon - the final war against the Devil;
3. New World
Also in the Bible, in the Revelation 20 chapter, there is a statement that the Devil will be imprisoned for 1000 years. This could be used as a reference to Imu's prison.
But can we actually say that Imu never summoned himself in the world to deal with things?
When Imu was shown for the first time in manga, the Gorosei was talking about the fact that the time for Great Cleansing had come. This means that the Great Cleansing happened many times after the Void Century. We know that some organizations that were replaced by Marines declared war on WG, ringing in the Ox Bell 16th times. We also know about events that happened with Emeth 200 years ago, when Emeth was awakened for some reason. Also, at some point, Davy Jones(first or second?) created Davy Games to make a pirate crew, which means he lived after the Void Century, because the first pirate was Joy Boy. So everything was a part of events that were cleansed from history. The reason why we know about the Void Century is only because of poneglyphs. Which means Imu always maintained his position in the shadows.
Also this means that Younko was never considered by Imu as a threat, because when Xebec declared war against Imu, he acted and killed his enemy.
