Questions & Mysteries Were the first Warlords of the Sea the first ones chosen or were there others before them?

were they the "First Generation" of the Warlords, or were their others before them?
We know they weren't all chosen at the same time, so were their others that died and replaced or were the Warlords assembled more slowly?

The Shichubukai system doesn't have the "first" or "second" generation or anything like that. It's just whoever the government decided to keep an eye on for a famous rising pirate and invite them to be a Warlord or not.

Kinda like the Akatsuki from Naruto. There's no generation. Just member enlisting.

I think a Shichibukai falling is supposed to be kind of a big deal. They were supposed to be picked for their renown strength after all and most of them operate on Paradise where even the weakest among them would be monsters (except Buggy).

So while it's perfectly believable that some of them could have fallen over the years previous to the start of the series, it was likely a very small number.

I'm also assuming they weren't formed until well into the Great Age of Piracy since they were introduced as some sort of counterweight for the Yonko in favor of the WG.

Maybe there were other pirates like Ace who had a warlord invitation but rejected it or maybe there was a warlord before weevil or something

They are the first as this is the first golden age of pirates, similar to how there where no previous yonkos
