General & Others What are the missing elements in Wano?

#1
I have been thinking as of late about what's making many fans have LESS investment in this war arc when it has been actually hyped BEYOND belief....

There is a consensus I would presume from a MAJORITY of fans... that the arc is about to enter a war, but there is NO INTENSITY... We can clearly see that with:

- Luffy face expressions in last few chapters, EVEN if he says he will get serious... he still doesn't really look serious at all

- Zoro having that gag with Luffy and making big chaos when they enter the palace

- Sanji just randomly in middle of freaking invading... went for a brothel and for women

- Nami and co DESPITE being in a pinch, their scene with Big Mom is MOSTLY comedy... and not scary

- Same for Usopp/Chopper when it was with Big Mom, it was not intense... rather comedy most of the time

So, what I am trying to say is that there is a FLAVOR in the mix, that is making the SHs loosen up and take things less seriously than what they should... mind you that they all know right now about an alliance between TWO YONKO...

They also have experienced DEATH in this arc, by seeing Yasui.... and STILL.... it was not enough

They also have all witnissed the suffering of the citizens, from hunger/opression/tyranny/injustice

People they have formed bond with have suffered in this arc (Momonosuke/Otama/Grandpa Hyp...etc the list goes on and on)

I honestly think the arc is missing something important that will make us MORE invested, and MORE emotionally attached... simply including MORE powerhouses to the arc.... There is no shortage of strong people in this arc, but STILL it doesn't feel intense... what could be the missing element?

Some may suggest, more consequences..death...etc.... but I feel that EVERYTHING THAT WILL HAPPEN will not get things intense at this point.... UNLESSS

the SHs get involved in this tragedy...
Things like Law Dying/ a Scabbard dying.....is that really going to make fans so shocked? that shit is ALREADY expected with famous theories floating since forever

I think the missing flavor of this arc which could turn it serious is actually the SH crew themselves to have at least one crew member gets in a HUUUUUGE pinch...I am not saying SH member dying.... but AT LEAST, a member who's life is threatened and is at stake

Like, let's say Kaido/Beast Pirates defeats Luffy in the first invasion.... but in the process, he takes Chopper for example because:
1- Big Mom wants him in her collection
2- His Rumbel Ball, can make his army of Zoan DF users benefit GREATLY from it... so Chopper can be someone Kaido views in high regard as someone with value

the idea of one member of the SHs getting involved in such a way... it ALWAYS received great intensity by us fans... and similarly with the crew themselves... as they start to get tense.. and go beyond any limit for that nakama

We can also have Luffy left on the verge of death after his encounter with Kaido... where Luffy stays unconscious for many days... until he regains consciousness and they do their counter attack

Point is... unless the crew themselves are in that pinch, NOT momonosuke, NOT Yasui, not just side ally.... the arc will stay without intensity

I think that's what separates Marineford from Wano... We have Ace (Luffy's brother execution on one hand) while we have Momo (who gives a fuck) on execution LMAO... and about to get saved soon anyway

What do you all think is missing too?

Well, there's too much to list them all so I'm going to list only the most important ones.

1. Kaido being a caword and the destruction of his hype.
2. Beast Pirates being even more stupid than Big Mom pairets and not taking strowhats seriously, like come on... Queen is having fun when Luffy is rampaging in Anigashima.
3. Strowhats being annoying as always and not taking two Yonko seriously.
4. Beast pirates being drunk, blind, deaf...
5. Unnecessary events that make the arc boring as hell.

Lol, if Beast Pirates are taking SHs lightely and ignoring them, why would SHs take them seriously, they both will just ignore each other and play around LOL

But yeah I agree overall...

They should take them seriously at least because of two Yonko, in previous arc they experienced the glimpse of Yonko strength and were running from her for their life, I'm fine with Luffy not taking them seriously (even though I don't like it) but Luffy is Luffy, but I can't understand why characters like Nami, Robin, Zoro, Sanji do it too.

I miss the old days when Sengoku sent 23 ships ONLY for scouting Whitebeard, then he received info that ALL communication with those ships were cut off!

Things were just deadly with that scene... a Fleet admiral is SO calculated and serious... Whitebeard is So calculated to not allow scouting from enemies.... 23 ships are lost in an instant! That's how you shift the tone of the upcoming arc! and show how each side respect one another to out it all on the line from the get-go

Sengoku EVEN warned about the idea of WB and allies going to Impel Down... instead of Marineford... so he was somewhat ready for the battle to be somewhere else even... that's what you call being ready

- a clear structure of the story. Plan it carefully, so you can distinguish important scenes from mediocre and plot points that would end up wasting the panels without giving any contribution to the bigger arc and saga.

- Give Wano lore some depth even in the war episodes, dont forget how the terrains, geographical unique feats would affect the war.

- Give the beast pirates some ability to formulate comeback strategy to oppose SH alliance.

- Quality scenes over quantity. We don't need fighting scenes of SH being cornered and tired and struggling against fodders for chapters upon chapters. Its dragging. Just prolong the panels, be it fights or plot points, that really move the story forward. make the shenanigans brief.

- dont give empty hypes by drawing menacing silhouettes, without backing it up by real good performance. Like Numbers had savage shadows at the start, but they are quite meh in reality once they entered the stage. Dont you even dare give Kaidou WSC status if he won his major fight by sneak attack after receiving a huge scar by the opponent's first attack. What kind of shonen storytelling is that? Give the badass build-ups proper satisfactory execution. This leads to the next point.

- Stop trying to hype everyone and their mothers. Trying to please everyone's powerlevel fandom will end up ugly. Make up your mind. Give the hype only to the deserving.

This small scene has more intensity than WCI and Wano arc together so far.

Meaningful interactions between the Straw Hats, emotional investment and higher stakes. Act 2 in particular showcased how emotionally numb the Straw Hats were, when Luffy was taken out Oda made a gag out of the reactions of the Straw Hats and Udon was just a training session for Luffy. Even side characters like Kid has been more emotionally charged in the arc than the actual protagonists themselves which is telling even though he has had a third of the panel time.

Maybe Orochi needs to feed Zoro a failed Smile while Luffy is unconscious after his defeat LOL... and drive Zoro to obey him for sometime LMAO
Would be fucking great hahahahaha
