What other games with similar vibe would you recommend instead?

I believe that the whole souls genre is generally overrated and not that great from an unbiased point of view.
1. The Graphics are beautiful, sure.
2. The gameplay is mediocre as hell boiling down usually to rolling out of 20 attacks from a boss, using one of your attacks and then rolling again. Add some special skills in-between or some magic and that's it.
3. The difficulty that's generally glazed to the heavens usually boils down to "The enemy hits like a tank and also the HP of a tank while you are built like a twig". Which is an artificial and boring way of amping the difficulty.
4. And the story is generally very convoluted but overall acceptable. It's a fucking shame that nothing is actually explained in the game properly and that you have to watch YouTube videos for everything to make sense.

To recap; beautiful graphics, mediocre gameplay, artificially inflated difficulty and a convoluted story that's just not worth the hastle.
My recommendation? Play other games.

But like, what other better games was my question. Asking about some dark medieval fantasy theme games. Basically better games with similar vibe.

Elden Ring is mediocre as hell and overrated as fuck. Yet Dark souls fans will suck both the game and the creator off as if it was their full time job. Like come on bro, pull it out of your mouth before speaking.

Anyways, I finished Elden Ring and now I'm playing Shadow of the Erdtree DLC and Dark Souls 3.

I'm not siding with him but I will say that something being universally beloved doesn't always mean it's good. I hate plenty of things that most people seem to like, for example.
It's just his preference probably. Not sure why exactly he thinks it's overrated though

I disagree. When something is so beloved and does as good as Elden Ring, it's objectively a very good game. If it's not his cup of tea, that's a reflection of his preferences, not the game itself. You don't sell 12 million copies in the first few weeks of a game's release if it's not good.

If you hate something that is universally beloved, that's a reflection of you and you only.

His aggressive tone is most likely because he just sucks at Souls games.
