Controversial What are your favorite movies this year?

- part of is personal investment in ceylans movies being small glimpses into turkish society dynamics (gender relations, socio-economic divides, arrogance of the educational elite...), and I am turkish/german

- in-depth character study of a very unlikeable yet still interesting character, and some of his traits made me reflect on my own tendencies, either past or present

- visually stunning and expressive of the story itself

Well, I vibed with the film. But can't say I'm a big fan. Anyway, it was a long film and I didn't take notes lol.

Turkish society's dynamics are fun, as I don't know them that much. But this doesn't sound very foreign to France's dynamics either. Arrogance of the educated class is international for instance.

I'd be more interested to finally see something very political about the Syrian migrants in Turkey or stuff about non-Turks in Turkey's borders or beyond. I understand that the current political climate wouldn't allow this kind of film, but Ceylan's films who are barely or even not at all financed with public money should go deeper than "subtile" criticism of society.
