The attack's output is not rounded, and the width of the blow is greater it is not just a thin beam.

Oda is either just being inconsistent or alternatively, Kaido used a weaker version of the attack in 1020 because yamato is his daughter and so he's holding back

The attack used on Luffy is much smaller and thinner.

The attack used in YAMATO is wider and the output is much more robust than the beam used in Luffy.
