Questions & Mysteries What did Solo Leveling do that OP anime hasn't?

#1
For the way it managed to make most people even non-webtoon fans to love the anime despite it being a generic "overpowered MC that keeps getting stronger and stronger" story

Why is Solo Leveling so successful and OP anime (and most animes) nowadays take years to do these in their first seasons ?

@RayanOO help me with tags please

Because OP started during the medieval age of internet, you couldn't watch series/anime online but only at tv (at least in my country back in 2001 our internet connection was 56-128 fuckin kbps) and animation wasn't that good back then.

Also a lot of anime/manga fans were called nerds etc but today its common even for 40-50y old dudes to watch anime series.

Comparing it to long-running franchises like OP that have the burden of decades of legacy content (and therefore have a higher cost of buy-in from new viewers) is not really appropriate to gauge its success.

In comparison to other modern anime, however, I'd argue it has good execution in general. It is well animated, and always has something in the narrative to look forward to with well-paced pay-offs. The execution is of similar quality to Attack on Titan.

The premise is something every traditional male brain really enjoys at a basic (biological?) level. I don't think it's some high-brow entertainment or anything, but wrapping quality around base human desires is always a good recipe for success.

Solo leveling is one thing, aura farming, people really only care about aura farming which is why a bland story like solo leveling is so loved. Personally me I find solo leveling boring, I liked him better when he was still this pathetic little boy, not a tall "perfect" man that he is now.

Which is why I love dandadan, hell, without the weird things it would be surpassing solo leveling. Dandadan is great, okarun is hilarious yet shy and nerdy but has a transformation where he gets all cool and confident for a short time instead of the entire show. The characters are memorable. The jokes are funny. The gags are hilarious. The story is great and while being weird it still has so much depth and character building on the characters in just 12 episodes, even the minor characters are memorable

It's kinda cringe at some parts but it's good. The fights are great. The story is weird but overall is good. The emotion is nice. Pretty much everything in it is really well done.

And I love the transformations, like okarun switching from this shy, nerdy, dumb, little pathetic boy to this majestic, strong, powerful, confident man is perfect. And I like how it's for a short time and he doesn't stay like that, unlike solo leveling
