Character Discussion What do you think about Kaido as a character and as a villain?

hinestly he seems like a reslly great side character. Oda should habe made anoth antsgonist better than Kaidou and Orochi for Wano. one of the goursei shoukd have been the Daiymo for Wano.

A good character concept but heavily flawed in execution.

- His obsessive PTSD of Oden was a sign of unrealistically weak mentality compared to his physical strength.
- His unique perspective of war in his flashback wasnt even fleshed out in his present view of ideology, mannerisms, dialogue, or his treatment (unrealistically forgiving) towards his enemies (Oda making him giving free hits and screaming in pain etc etc against everyone bar Luffy is a humiliation his character).

About his strength, it's just immeasurable.

If Kaido was a DnD class, he would be a Barbarian character.
Usually very straightforward. It's all about hitting things and hitting them hard. Being the strongest, strength is what defines his morals, etc, etc. A stereotypical warrior-esque approach.
For that, I think Kaido did his job very well. He's indeed worth of being known as the World's Strongest Creature.

I think trying to make some flashback to try and make him more "complex" did not work at all. In the end, Kaido is bad because he's bad. He decided to enslave a whole country for decades because reasons. I think that having the JoyBoy "reveal" through Kaido being the villain to trigger it was really poor. Instead of a lore perspective, JoyBoy ended up being a power up one, and I think that's lame as fuck.

His fruit was good. Not very well explored. I think Oda did a bad job at mixing some "dragon stuff" with Kaido's fighting style. We saw him shooting some beam while in hybrid, but Queen shoots beams as well, so that's not really something "unique". Creating those cataclysms he creates while in Dragon form, but in Hybrid, or creating a flaming cloud to fly around the battlefield like BM used Zeus, etc, could have done the trick. Something more than "I swing my club, but now I have scales and a tail".

Overall, post TS I think both Kaido and Big Mom ended up surpassing the expectations I had for them ever since we were first told about the Yonkos. i've always considered them "filler" Yonkos, so I was glad I could enjoy them to some extent.
I think Wano has A LOT of problems, but I definitely wouldn't put Kaido himself anywhere at the top of that list.

A solid villain for One Piece standards.

Based ; better than Lakainu
Akainu isn't even a villain bro.
The navy is not a villain, it serves the world government which is the villain of history the navy's purpose is not to cause harm to the world.

Dealing with threats and impeding progress has been the function of the navy, it doesn't enslave or want to destroy the world or do anything like that, there are many different beliefs in the navy, Coby is not an evil character, Fujitora is not an evil character, Garp and Sengoku are not bad characters, the navy doesn't have the structure to be called a villain.

The Navy's only mistake is not taking sides and acting independently, it's an organization submissive to the government and someone needs to break that lasting bond, and Aokiji lives for it.:risitameh::risitameh::risitameh:

I'm already changing Sabo that was programmed for Akainu to Aokiji versus Akainu.

Aokiji to Akainu: Under your command, the navy will never be free from the evil hands of the tenryuubits and the world government that oppress and dominate us.:risitameh::saden:

Bland from start to finish. At the end of the day, the flashback didn’t really add anything new.

The arc didn’t do him any favours. Orochi took the spotlight for the truly villainous acts and plans against the protagonists. Big Mom showed up and took a bit more of the spotlight from him.
He basically just spent most of the time fighting with mundane dialogue, had some Oden PTSD, and the stuff that made his introduction interesting got no focus.

He’s just too mediocre for how much time we ended up spending in the arc.

I think he was decent looking objectively. He was rooted in strength and war defined him and he showed that. I think oda should have fleshed his character more in FB and give him more depth but thats fine.
