Tbh everything He shown so far reminds me of Kage Kage No Mi (Moria's DF),
It's possible that Real Imu doesn't have any Regen, while his Incarnations are like Moria's Shadow which was also Near-Invincible,

As for Holy Knights Regen, it's possible that it works similar to how Moria can switch Places with his Shadow,
It's basically Abyss Powers making sure their Body Parts are always replaced,
It's like a Passive Non-Stop Repair disguised as Magic,

The point is, Imu's whole thing has been secrecy and deceit. He is the secret World-King as he rules by his proxies while he hides in the shadows and he tricks and enslaves the minds and souls, like with Harald and Gunko.

So, imagine if in the finale of Return to the Jedi, when Luke challenged The Emperor, Palpatine then became a 6'7 ginger bodybuilder wielding the lightsaber version of an Odachi.

That's why it's so jarring.

I think it's a bit jarring because his design comes off across a lot closer to Kaido and King than any of the Gorosei or Knights,

Yes, that too. Maybe if he didn't look like a viking for whatever reason and had a fancier version of the Holy Knight uniform, it might look better.
