Roger says he’s been thinking about something for a year as he goes after Rocks. What is it?

I think Roger was defeated by Rocks similar to How Luffy gets beaten by the bad guy before he comes back for a final win. So Roger has had a year to train ever since.

The Roger Pirates reached Lodestar Island 1 year before God Valley, being the first (known) crew to do so... that's the only notable event mentioned in the manga at this timespan.

The only thing we know about their first stay in Lodestar is that Roger noticed that there was 1 island still ahead (Lodestar was the supposed end of the grand line, but they were able to discover there that there was something else), but who knows what happened before (or after) this... he could've confronted Xebec at the time too.

The timeline adds up too much for it to be coincidence.

On top of my head, it could be that Hachinosu's Crown Jewel can give a clue on how to reach the final island and ever since Roger reach Lodestar, he was trying to find a way to get it.
