Decent pirates like Whitebeard actually value and love their ships. I'm pretty sure there's at least one member in the Roger crew who didn't want to see the sorry state the OJ ended up in after they disbanded and didn't want to destroy it... One of them probably took it and stored it somewhere.

I'm thinking maybe Crocus hid it somewhere inside Laboon or something.. or maybe someone else took it and hid it, like Scopper or someone else.. But I doubt it's Shanks though.
