Speculations What if Luffy recruited Killer instead of Zoro?

One Piece would have less sales. Neither his personality nor his design is nearly as badass as Zoro, having a character like Zoro right off the bat in a duo with Luffy, is one of the pillars of One Piece's success imo. As for power wise, Oda would bend arcs in his favour, he would now have MC plot protection at all times, so he would survive any situation Zoro survived, and thrive in any situation Zoro thrived in.

Overall it's a massive downgrade, Killer's design and style is not suited for a deuteragonist of a shonen manga, even in verse it would make for less badass moments given his personality. Things would be a bit too organized with Killer around, what makes the SHs stand out from other crews is how chaotic they are.

I dont think they get past Alabasta arc. Mr.1 would be a menace. Dnt think Killer wouldve awaken his haki there, leading to the end of the SH's. If it wasn't clear, Luffy needs Zoro and Zoro needs Luffy to achieve their goals. Zoro is not replaceable

Honestly @TheAncientCenturion , this thread made me think and with some points, you are absolutely right.


While Zoro pretty much is only a fighting force, without anything else bringing into the crew (which seems to be enough for alot of people), would Killer be way more usefull. He would analyze the enemies pretty fast, would bring them down lethaly and fast, wouldn’t get lost all the time...



Killer is kinda the strategic force Luffy is needing in his fights. With him, telling him some weaknesses or warning Luffy in time, Luffy would have way less problems in paradise and i think even after. Yes, Zoro is strong, but beside that, what does he have to offer to the strawhats, compared to Killer?



But since Killer and Kid are friends since early childhood, there bond is way deeper than Luffy/Zoro. Kid doesn’t need to “recruit” Killer, they were a force since beginning. Which makes them a way more sympathic duo in my opinion. Heck, Luffy and Zoro aren’t even a duo, they wouldn’t be able to fight together.

Zoro isn't only a fighting force and he's always analyzed his opponents and not only his opponents but the situations. Zoro's usually the one explaining the situation to luffy like in zou, PH, wci and plenty of other times. Killer analysis of things would bring nothing new. Zoro's also a leader, 1 of the few people Luffy listens to, he's clever in a crisis like in alabasta he was the one to come up with the X on the arms, and he along with Sanji and Luffy are the 3 that anchors the crew. Idk where you get zoro's just a fighting force if that was the case sh's would have died in whiskey peak. Being a fighting force is just 1 of the things Zoro is best at.

Now I'm not gonna act like killer isn't a really good number 2 but just being smarter than Zoro doesn't mean he's a better number 2. Killer fits like a glove for kidds crew but wouldn't be as good on luffy's as his best points others on the crew are better at. Zoro's fit on luffy's crew works cuz unless a crisis is happening Zoro only needs to be muscle because every sh is competent and doesn't need to be constantly looked after in normal circumstances. Imo subbing both for the other makes both crews overall worse.

Yeah, and Sanji is replaceable with another cook. Franky is replaceable with another shipright, Nami is replaceable with another navigator.

By that logic, there are logically available options for everyone's "general role" other than Robin, who is only one of her kind in the whole world. Sure, you can replace Zoro with another swordsman, but is it the same?

Good luck finding a fighter with potential of EoS Zoro, though. Literally no one Luffy can recruit who can be as strong as Zoro with their progression, or EoS. Killer's many tiers behind, and he's the best Zoro replacement available.

Honestly, it doesn't even apply to Zoro only. For example, no available cook in OP history is going to be even 3 tiers near Sanji (considering only other top tier is possibly Greenbull).

Also, insane to suggest that Luffy's life hasn't been saved by Zoro many, many times. Does anyone really need to point thousand instances?

The entire point of Thriller Bark was to emphasize upon importance of Zoro as Luffy's RHM.
