Questions & Mysteries What is a swordsman?

A swordsman is a person who only uses swordsmanship in combat (or not always only because throughout the story Zoro was punching, kicking and throwing buildings at opponents but that's more to the question of Oda's lack of continuity)

So those who fit this description are swordsmen.
King never said he wasn't a swordsman and later tells zoro he loves sword duels.

Someone with swordsmanship as apart of their arsenal regardless of your level of mastery, regardless of you favoring another aspect of your fighting style, or whether you care to be called one or not. If you intend to fight a serious battle with swords as apart of your kit you qualify. You can still be a swordsman without needing to be defined by it or it being your whole personality, I’m looking at you Big Mom and King, they’re still good enough to threaten serious combatants w their use of swords alone even if there are other aspects of their fighting styles that they prefer/better with.

Eh, I disagree here. Lucci uses rankyaku which is a swordsman technique to Kaku and I don’t think a single person would ever call him a swordsman.

It seems like the strongest do not have DFs in order to avoid any misunderstanding on their strength.

Except Edward Newgate :lusalty:
Yeah DF Users usually hide behind their DF ability and once they get exposed it's the same "Impossible! How did he get past my xyz ability?!" stunned Enel face.

Swordsmen/Martial Artists with CoC are the exception to this. If you want to beat them or surpass them, only way is to get better. Hiding behind DFs only gets you so far.

People who use a Sword. Some of them enhance their Swordsmanship with mastery over 3 Haki forms while some of them enhance their Swordsmanship with a DF power and that doesn't really matter - they're still Swordsmen.
The haki Shanks enhances his swordsmanship is different from all form of haki we know so that disqualifies him from being a pure swordsman. You see the named sword he carried since ages is just there so he can make cool poses with it. He was rivaling Mihawk with just his haki even chapter Mihawks bounty was revealed it was confirmed the panel comparing the two swordmanship was simply editors mistake. What oda meant was the two of them had gag rivalry in an exclusive chapter he only shared with Ndule uyuu and seatonnes
