It seems that not even akainu is aware of the existence of sword as he stated that he didn't know how strong the samurai of wano were despite Drake having spent the last two years in wano kuni.

So what is sword? What is its purpose? Who is controlling it?
We know that Drake is a captain in sword but its fairly obvious that this whole scheme has been orchestrated by someone else. Who could that be?

given that Akainu doesn't know about it, the options are limited. It would have to be someone extremely powerful with a lot of influence. The only people I can think of are:
  • Myosgard
  • Kong
  • the old guard marines(Tsuru, Garp, Sengoku)
  • Aokiji

The most intelligent Marines , their strategists/tacticians - Sengoku , Tsuru , and they could very well have told Garp about the existence of SWORD

My guess is Akainu since he has a sword tatoo on his shoulder yet I agree that his statement about not knowing Wano forces and, probabòy more importantly than that, Coby be a part of it, are a bit fishy. Maybe Akainu knows and takes info about them, and probably was even part of that considering the tatoo, even if the actual leader of that unity is somebody else (now)(he can not be everything in the marines), maybe Aokiji? Will fit a lot more with Coby, maybe Garp even recommended it to his "friend" Aokiji at least for sure they are on the same side of justice in the marine. Sengoku most likely knows about that and worked for it (maybe still works for it) since he was the one who dealt with Corazon in Doffy's family and that was no CP.

[SWORD] seems to be the CP for the marines.

Before you come at me CiperPol reports to the World Government not the marines.

The Marines are their own Faction but also report to the World Government [SWORD] could be a secret organization Akainu came up with since he doesn't trust the WG and wants information sent to him directly.

It's possible we can have an internal battle between the WG and the Marines if Akainu is not liking the direction the Marines are going he'll stand up and fight back he is not as laid back as Sengoku who just does what the WG wants.

Akainu might not be directly in charge of sword, he might have a subordinate doing that, but he def knows about it.

He said he doesnt know the full strength of the samurai's because as you remember, Orochi had been going around telling every one that the kozuki will return for vengeance.
We also got told the stronge samurai either went into hiding or got captured.

No one knows how strong the kozuki clan that returns and their forces are.

So it makes sense that Akainu was cautious. Drake has been feeding them info constantly. He had already informed coby that Kaido and BM are fighting and that the navy was looking forward to bm andkaido fighting.

Akainu is the fleet admiral, so if the navy are looking forward to seeing bm and kaido fight, he definitely knows what is happening in wano.

Akainu knows about SWORD or not? after reading all your posts, both theories make sense to me, damn.

I'm still inclined to believe he doesn't know because of "that thing" that Coby mentions. I don't know... it felt rebellious, like a coup or something. Coby is Garp's disciple afterall and they both have reason to hold a grudge against Akainu.

Sengoku - 100%
Garp - 100%
Akainu - 99.9%
Tsuru - 100%
Rest - no clue

It's a special division of the marines, if the Fleet Admiral automatically will know of it.

Who leads it? My bet would be Akainu somebody else. Unless they're meant to serve as Akainu's personal "go to men" or something

sengoku made it and now he gave it to xdrake and aokiji to control it. and all the good marines are part of it. like garp, drake, coby, helmeppo, sengoku(former?), aokiji, hina, smoker, tashigi. like the secret marines organization that does their own thing, not liking the leadership of kong/akainu/CDs


SWORD will join luffy in the final war of the manga.

I hope Garp , it would be nice to have the monkeys brings the WG together
it would be surprising too since Garp is the one who seems doesn't want to be leader but he despises the WG

SWORD is part of the Marines so that instantly rules out guys like Aokiji and Kong
SWORD is likely under the direction of one of the Admirals or Sakazuki - i suspect the Admirals, as the Admirals appear to have leadership over several divisions e.g. G5 reports to Fujitora, Giants division reports to Borsalino etc.
My guess would be Fujitora as he's a swordsman and the name is related, but that's just guesswork. It could be a way to segway Ryokugyu into the story

He stated that before Drake spoke to Coby, so it's still baseless. You're ignoring the timeline.

Also, SWORD doesnt like Cipher Pol. Why would they share information? That also makes no sense.

X-Drake was 2 years in Wano , he didn't report to the Marines , otherwise Akainu will know.
and who said that SWORD would share infos with CP?
