Character Discussion What is your favorite Zoro line?

"Kill me? You couldn't even kill my boredom."

Sickest burn in the series, tbh. :steef:
Fuhhhhhh I forgot that. Legitimately felt sorry for Hyozo.

I think everyone did or will cover the big moments and memorable lines. But something like this, where Zoro is really describing the situation itself, is the best kind of hype. Zou was basically a primer for Wano and I was fucking pumped. Between that and Law in PH talking about how the wheels set in motion couldn't be stopped

I don't know if its some new woke shit that makes people hate Zoro, just look at all these lines, how can you not like the character and wish for his dream fulfillment. People cry for character development but in a story being read by young men/kids should not these type of characters have this stoicism/badass (whatever you wanna call it) just as necessary. To push yourself to the extreme, to go beyond and to not give up or give excuses, those are some of the best values/lessons that you can give to a young audience, to inspire them.

People don't hate Zoro, people, me included, like Zoro but hate the incredible Wank that he's given.
Zoro is a perfect prototype for cool guy in the Shonen that One Piece is, like Rukawa, Vegeta, Sasuke, etc.
It's a great archetype, but I personally hate when people just have to shit on other character (other archetypes) in an endless childish race to say that Zoro is the coolest.
When I was 14 Zoro was my favourite, now my favourites are almost non-existant, but I was closer to the "finding yourself" of Usopp. Lol, remember when Usopp was relevant.

Actually way back at the very beginning of the series, his quotes in the Buggy arc to Luffy and Nami were what laid the foundation. I liked Luffy just as much but Zoro was as good as ever

Zoro is nothing like Vegeta or Sasuke though.

I am not saying that they are the same character, but they serve the same purpose of "general cool guy". I am in no way trying to downplay Zoro here, I am just trying to describe how I percieve the character by a story telling perspective.
He is the "cool one" of the crew. Like Luffy is nowhere close to Goku, or Naruto or Hanamichi, but we can agree that they have the same archetype of the MC.
For example, FMA has that Ed is both cool and ridicolous.

"I promise I will never lose...to a brown person"
Truly a different time.

Truly a different time.
Archetype:
"a very typical example of a certain person or thing."

"the original pattern or model of which all things of the same type are representations or copies"

Neither of these statements are true. Zoro's example is that of a man who never switches sides or even pretends to switch, and his loyalty to Luffy isn't based on strength but character. He doesn't follow the way King did, and he won't take advantage of a weakened Luffy (or almost anyone else who's weakened: see the recent chapters) like most others with a captain.

You're not talking about storytelling, you're talking about a surface level appeal.
