General & Others What makes a character your favorite?

#2
I like villains who are extremely powerful but stay hidden and manipulate others from behind. Also something unique about them like an ability or style

--Obito as masked man with Kamui
--Aizen
--Youma Kairos with time manipulation
--Sensui where he was the only S ranked human before yusuke and only he had sacred power
--Diavolo in jojo

Badassness also matter.

Aizen is top tier anyone that doesn’t love him I have questions for.

It’s very telling that the only time Aizen is interesting is when he’s not the focal antagonist (Soul Society Arc & TYBW). I’d hazard a guess and say Aizen’s one of the biggest problems to Bleach’s story telling.

A bland and charismatic less villain who is more lethargic than grandpa on a mobility scooter is about as mid as it gets

Personality, strength, relatability, cool factor, how they bounce off the rest of their cast and sometimes unexpectedness (in a good way) usually matter to me.

FWIW my favourite fictional characters are Courage the Cowardly Dog and Wakatsuki Takeshi from Kengan. But many of the others I like are super different from those two.

Yo what are you on about? Aizen is the opposite of everything you said.

I usually gravitate to characters who have some degree of identity issue or subtle angst over themselves, but not always. Kisame, Rock from MhA Vigilantes, Starrk, Dabi, King, etc
We agree on Kisame. I always liked him but his ending sold me.

No he isn’t. Aizen is the main antagonist from chapter 200~ to 430 and he doesn’t actively get involved until around chapter 400. He spends most of his screen time sitting there with a smug look on his face not doing anything

One of the best written characters

Coolest design for a “normal” human being

and he fits the trope of characters I like. Tough exterior but softy deep down
What character are you referring to?

He’s manipulating everything. You don’t like that he doesn’t have to lift a finger?

I like characters that are fun or doing stuff on the screen and have more going on personality and backstory wise and are also goofing around and you can talk about the character for hours about their true thoughts
Like some of my favorites are Kakashi, Kisuke, Sanji from the big tree
Or Sakamoto and Shin from Sakamoto days from one the current running manga
Im allergic to "..." type shit stoic aura farmer characters
an "edgy" character done right is for example Alucard from Hellsing who is also fucking funny

So that makes him a lethargic antagonist. He does nothing on screen and the author hand waves it away and gives him off screen kudos.

That’s not interesting. He’s an main antagonist who doesn’t antagonize very often.

Tac is right on this
You need to imagine the "interesting" part that is not onscreen
Absolute dogshit type of writing imo
I disagree we’ve seen him in action and it’s always epic.

Yes we saw him eventually do things, after slogging through a 200 chapter arc where the most active he gets is Reiatsu crushing Grimmjow for being disobedient lol. That’s a lot of chapters with inactivity, when his personality is summed up to smug and silent.
