So a lot of people nowadays complain about post-ts and praise pre-ts to high levels. I am not going to argue with those people because everyone is entitled to their opinion and I won't take sides but instead I will point out some things which Post-TS doesn't get enough praise for. It's mainly 2 things, but they are very important, at least to me:
- Villains are more fleshed out: Crocodile and Enel were great villains, but we hardly got any backstory for them, Crocodile was just a underground boss who tried to take over a powerful country, Enel was just a random dude who ate a broken DF and became so strong, he declared himself god. Then we had Arlong and Moria, whose backstories were fleshed out after their respective arcs. Lucci and CP9 were rather simple villains, just agents of the world goverment with no real will of their own. On the other hand, Doflamingo, Katakuri, Big Mom and soon Kaido, all have a backstory that establishes their character and each of them is so different from another. And no. I don't consider Blackbeard and Akainu pre-ts villains because they were not defeated yet.
- Arcs are more unpredictable: Many people have critised Oda for being too formulaic sometimes and it was true. With the exception of Sabaody/Impel Down/Marineford, every arc was basically the same. The strawhats enter an island, the island is ruled by some evil boss and his crew, the strawhats fight and win all of their 1 on 1's and then Luffy wins in the end. In Post-TS, with the exception of FI, every arc has been completely different, in Punk Hazard only Law, Luffy and Zoro get to actually fight, with Law defeating the endboss of the fight, Dressrosa we get the seperation of the strawhats and the SH-fleet, WCI we got possibly the greatest fight of the series, which we didn't know we would get halfway into the arc. No one at this point even knows how Wano will end.
