Holy Knights are already the fightning force of the World Nobles, which leave the Five Blunders with what exactly?
Politics? Imu is the one who make all the important decisions, Mary Geoise is an absolute monarchy.

Are Five Blunders just a smokescreen for Imu? Then why make them immortal? People must be suspicous of five old men who never die for decades/centuries.

Make it make sense!

Imu: The Hidden true ruler of the world

The Five Elders: Most likely former Holy Knights who are Imu's top 5 subordinates, who are now in charge of certain occupations that they specialize in, dealing with politics and other stuff in the world, and finally acting as puppet rulers of the world.

The Holy Knights: CD members who are fighters that either deal with other CD members who have issues against each other, or they go on missions outside of Marijoa

Random CDs: Mainly a bunch of spoiled nobodies.

It was literally explained what each one does when we found out their names
They do nothing all day, just sitting in this room while leaving all the work to the bureaucracy
A rubber stamp for Imu to use from the shadow that's what they are

Yes
Then why make them immortal?
If Imu can take their life away at any moment then he can be sure that they will not betray him.
People must be suspicous of five old men who never die for decades/centuries.
Who is to say that they are not?
CDs and Gorosei are GODs. When they tell the public "its fine, do not worry about it" then all the public can do is accept that answer.
We also have a known way of achieving immortality that the public is generally aware of.
They have to power to aquire the Ope fruit and they have the power to force someone to use it on them. Their longer than usual lifespans are not so strange in OP world.

The whole story how the current WG came to be requires that there is not a single person in charge.
If Imus existence is known then the founding myth of the current system falls apart.

The whole world currently seems very unbalanced. GKs can infiltrate Elbaph without issue. GB can enter Wano and defeat 2 of the strongest guys there. And so on...
It makes little sense that there is still a power struggle (with pirates) going on) when the WG apparently has that much overwhelming power.
Oda better come up with good reasons for this.

Without the Five Blunders, Law, Kidd, Sabo, Dragon, and Koby won't have EoS opponents.

Pretty obvious that they are the ones doing the day to day governament. Imu isn't micromanaging the WG, he was only really show taking direct control on three instances: Uranus, the Nefertari and changing Saturn for Garling, and even on this instances the Gorosei were the one doing the work, he was just ordering.

Through out the story u can se various instances that they are the ones doing the decision making as Head of state of the WG, from joint decisions like choosing the Warlords to taking care of their own "areas' like Saturn with Pacisfista project.

That's literaly what any head of any governament do, u think Putin is fighting in the frontlines, Trump is in the border arresting mexicans and Xi is laying bricks in construction projects? LOL

Seems like you missed the part where the head HK was promoted to Gorousei recently.

They're the public bosses while the HK are the enforcers, that's the entire point.

Plus they're semi-immortal.
